OVERSTONE RUINED

WHO ARE WE?

Overstone RUINED (Residents United in Nullifying Excessive Development) was originally formed in 2017 as a protest group against the Barry Howard Homes plans to build 52

houses on the Church Farm fields (adjacent to Overstone Church and in front of Overstone hall).
Overstone is a small village in Northamptonshire, England.

Fairline Homes (Director Barry Howard) have submitted two Planning Applications for the building of 100 properties in and around Overstone Hall.

2025/0711/MAF

Application for full planning permission and listed building consent for restoration of part of the fabric of Overstone Hall; demolition of south wing, single storey extension adjoining east elevation (former canteen) and interior walls behind facades; removal of existing metal fire escape; erection of new apartment building containing 26 no. Apartments within the confines of Overstone Hall; restoration of external steps, ha-ha and its associated railings and external garden features; provision of parking spaces and access roads; provision of private amenity spaces; construction of wildlife towers; provision of passing bays along existing driveway; construction of foul water pumping station; provision of attenuation basin, removal of dilapidated former boiler house and swimming pool base, and associated works

2025/0710/MAF

An application for Full Planning Permission for the erection of 74 dwellings (57 no. apartments and 17 no. houses) as enabling development to secure the conservation of Overstone Hall (part thereof); alterations to existing access on to Sywell Road, provision of access roads, passing bays and parking spaces, provision of new parking spaces available for drop off and collection of children attending Overstone Primary School, provision of pedestrian footpaths, provision of ecological features, public open space, construction of foul water pumping station, provision of attenuation basin, and associated works’

WHAT ARE OUR OBJECTIONS

  • Heritage Impact: The proposed developments could significantly alter the historic landscape of Overstone Hall and its surroundings.

  • Village Infrastructure: An influx of new homes will strain our local infrastructure, affecting roads, schools, and essential services.

PROTEST COMMENTS

Thousands of houses are already being built in close proximity to my village. I'm struggling to see how the village will be able to manage that much traffic (I struggle to get out of my own driveway at the moment in the village as it is at peak times) let alone with a further 60+ houses being built. Restoring Overstone Hall shouldn't happen to detriment of the countryside surrounding it.

This development is Ill conceived. Merely an excuse for developers to make lots of money, with no consideration for local residents. No infrastructure to support fully the Overstone Leys development, so this is clearly not going to help.

This is simply a Trojan horse... Unnecessary development and blatant profiteering, disguised as a deserving conservation project

'Enabling development' is for schemes considered harmful (so this application already recognises it will be harmful); but could be accepted because the benefits outweigh the harm. I fail to understand how a tarted up old house converted into luxury apartments for people unlikely to integrate into the village activities can be of any benefit to anyone except the Barry Howard Homes!!

It would be a tragedy to see Overstone village destroyed and become just another anonymous extension that is Northampton. What villages will Northampton have left?? I grew up on Church Lane, riding my horse, building dens... It will be such a different village without this part of it, houses and roads are being built on all sides!! There will be no village left, a true shame. Where does this destruction of rural areas and villages stop? England losing its identity housing development by housing development.
