OVERSTONE RUINED

WHO ARE WE?

Overstone RUINED (Residents United in Nullifying Excessive Development) was formed as a protest group against the Barry Howard Homes plans to build 52

houses on the Church Farm fields (adjacent to Overstone Church and in front of the hall) to ‘enable development’ of Overstone Hall.
Overstone is a small village in Northamptonshire, England.

WHAT ARE OUR OBJECTIONS

  • The whole idea of restoring the Hall is to maintain it as a Heritage Asset for future generations but converting it into flats and building a housing estate around it, is hardly in keeping with its’ heritage values.

  • Overstone is only a small village of 750 residents and a housing development on this scale will increase it by a third in size and majorly impact on its’ infrastructure.

  • There will only be one road (Church Lane) leading to or from the new estate and with the potential for 180+ cars having to turn onto an already busy Sywell Road (at peak times) opposite Overstone Primary School, it’s a recipe for disaster.

  • No account has been taken for improved infrastructure within the Overstone village area i.e. Shops, schools etc.

  • Daventry District Council have insisted to the developer he build these properties within the Parish of Overstone,“ as the local residents stand to benefit the most from Overstone Halls’ restoration”.

    • Nobody actually stands to gain from its’ restoration apart from the developer. The house is being converted into flats so no one will be able to visit it as a heritage site and no one will be able to look at it from the road without seeing dozens of modern houses dotted around it.

      • Therefore It won’t bring local jobs to the village

      • It won’t bring Tourism

      • It will bring extra traffic

      • It will make Overstone a much less desirable place to live

  • We already have 2000+ houses being built almost entirely within the Parish of Overstone, so there’s certainly no requirement for new housing in the area.

PROTEST COMMENTS

Thousands of houses are already being built in close proximity to my village. I'm struggling to see how the village will be able to manage that much traffic (I struggle to get out of my own driveway at the moment in the village as it is at peak times) let alone with a further 60+ houses being built. Restoring Overstone Hall shouldn't happen to detriment of the countryside surrounding it.

This development is Ill conceived. Merely an excuse for developers to make lots of money, with no consideration for local residents. No infrastructure to support fully the Overstone Leys development, so this is clearly not going to help.

This is simply a Trojan horse... Unnecessary development and blatant profiteering, disguised as a deserving conservation project

'Enabling development' is for schemes considered harmful (so this application already recognises it will be harmful); but could be accepted because the benefits outweigh the harm. I fail to understand how a tarted up old house converted into luxury apartments for people unlikely to integrate into the village activities can be of any benefit to anyone except the Barry Howard Homes!!

It would be a tragedy to see Overstone village destroyed and become just another anonymous extension that is Northampton. What villages will Northampton have left?? I grew up on Church Lane, riding my horse, building dens... It will be such a different village without this part of it, houses and roads are being built on all sides!! There will be no village left, a true shame. Where does this destruction of rural areas and villages stop? England losing its identity housing development by housing development.
